Sweet or dry, Elle Woods would approve: Fall sangria for every palate
When Elle Woods said, “I’m making sangria. It’s really yummy,” I felt that in my palate – and in my soul.
Although my inspiration did not come in the middle of a courtroom meeting (mine was felt on my front porch decked out in fall decor), I knew I had to make my own version – cozy vibes, yummy fall flavors, and just enough sparkle (and fruit) to make Elle proud.
This sangria is everything you want in a fall cocktail: sweet but crisp, fruity but balanced, and absolutely beautiful in the glass. Whether you’re hosting a girls’ night, a Thanksgiving pregame, or just channeling your inner Elle Woods in the kitchen (sparkly spatula optional), this recipe is for you.
Ingredients
• 2 bottles Sauvignon Blanc
• 2 cups apple cider
• 2 tablespoons maple syrup
• 1 cup triple sec
• 1 peach, sliced
• 1 Red Delicious apple (sweet)
• 1 Granny Smith apple (crisp)
• 1 pear (any variety works — I used Bartlett since it pairs perfectly with white wine)
• 1 plum (because I like it!)
• Ice + cinnamon sticks to swirl and garnish
• Club soda for a drier sip
• Prosecco for a sweeter pour
Instructions
1. Start with the base: Pour both bottles of Sauvignon Blanc into a large pitcher or punch bowl. This will give you a light, crisp foundation for all your fall flavors.
2. Add the cider: Mix in two cups of apple cider – it brings that cozy, cinnamon-apple warmth that makes this sangria feel like a hug in a glass.
3. Sweeten it up: Add two tablespoons of maple syrup and a full cup of triple sec. The maple adds a deep, autumnal sweetness, and the triple sec gives it a citrusy brightness that keeps everything balanced.
4. Add the fruit: Slice and drop in fresh fruits of your choice. I went with peach, two apple variations, pear, and plum. This mix gives you a perfect contrast – sweet, tart, crisp, and juicy.
5. Chill and infuse: Add a few handfuls of ice, then stir with cinnamon sticks to infuse a little spice and look extra aesthetic (Elle would 100% approve!).
6. Top it off: When serving, top with club soda for guests who like it light and dry (enter my mom and sister-in-law), or with Prosecco for those who prefer it sweet and sparkling (will me and my mother-in-law please stand up?).
7. Optional: Garnish each glass with a cinnamon stick or a thin apple slice for that Pinterest-perfect finish.
The Vibe
I call this my “Elle Woods Energy” Sangria – because it’s bubbly, sweet, a little extra, and totally fabulous. The blend of Sauvignon Blanc and apple cider is crisp and refreshing, but the maple syrup, triple sec, and cinnamon give it that cozy, fall-hug warmth.
It’s the perfect “movie night with the girls” drink, and it doubles beautifully as a holiday crowd-pleaser (trust me – even your pickiest wine friends will go back for seconds – mine did!).
