Swimming toward the dock: Even tired swimmers make it
I can see the dock.
It’s there – steady, waiting, solid. I know I’ll make it there. I’ve swum through worse waters.
I’ve been pulled under before, and I’ve resurfaced stronger.
I trust that, whatever the outcome of this particular swim, I’ll stand again.
Dripping? Inevitability.
Shaky? Possibly.
But…STANDING.
Still, can I be honest?
I’m just…tired of swimming.
I’m tired of the freezing water that shocks your system the second you dive in.
Tired of the currents that push you sideways when all you want is to go forward.
Tired of the waves that crash into your chest just as you’re catching your breath.
And I know I’m not alone in this. I know so many of you are swimming, too.
Sometimes it’s health. Sometimes it’s loss. Sometimes it’s uncertainty, or a long-awaited answer, or a season that just won’t let up.
But if you’re reading this and you’re tired of the journey – even if you know the destination is solid and good – I want you to know something:
You’re not weak for feeling weary.
You’re not broken because you wish you could teleport to the dock instead of earning it stroke by stroke.
And you’re not alone in wanting the journey to just. ease. up.
Some days, all we can do is float. Other days we power through. Either way, we move.
So here’s to everyone out there who’s mid-swim. Who sees the dock. Who trusts they’ll make it – but just wishes they could skip the cold plunge this time.
I see you. I’m with you. And we’ll get there – together.
